This engagement session was more than a 1-2 hour shoot for us, it was a vacation and a party! Jamie and I decided to travel to Connecticut for his big Irish family reunion. Over 80 family members got together for this week long adventure. Jamie’s cousin Megan and her fiance Cliff whose wedding we will be shooting next year were among those in attendance; so shooting their engagement session during our stay worked out perfectly!
We stayed in a house in Groton Long Point, a beautiful coastal get-a-way just outside Mystic, Connecticut. It was stunning! Our house was across the street from the beach and there was always laughter and stories to be heard. Like me Cliff has lots to look forward to by joining this lively family.
Megan had her hair and makeup done for the engagement session, which we always encourage if you're up for it. Sometimes that extra pampering sets the mood for your photo shoot and gives the bride to be an extra confidence boost. I met Megan at the salon and just as we were about to leave…torrential downpour out of no where! I was so impressed with Megan’s attitude; she was a trooper and held her emotions at bay, while we came up with a game plan. We stopped and picked up some umbrellas, and we were ready to make the magic happen! A little rain would not stop us from taking beautiful engagement photos!
We headed to Enders Island an 11-acre island located within the town of Stonington, just off the coast of the Mystic section of the town. It was peaceful and gorgeous. Fortunately Mother Nature was on our side and it stopped raining right as we arrived for the shoot. We roamed the island and got lots of shots in before the rain made another short lived appearance. Megan and Cliff took cover under the archway of the Island’s church in front a bright blue door—which made for an amazing backdrop. Megan’s mom came to the rescue and held an umbrella over me, so I could get the perfect engagement shots! When the rain stopped we were rewarded with a beautiful rainbow! Megan and Cliff were so excited, and I was so happy to see that the obstacle of rain ended up being an added bonus!
I had such a great time photographing and getting to know Megan and Cliff. They are such a nice couple it was a pleasure spending time with them. I’m already looking forward to their wedding, and next years Connecticut trip.
